Minuteman : Gave You All The Blame

Plodding indie rock...

Matt Jones used to be keyboard-player in one of the UK's most remarkable bands. The truly unique Ultrasound imploded under the weight of their own sonic ambition, leaving each member to stagger away and form new, very different, outfits.

Shame then, that Jones should have ticked the 'plodding indie rock' option on his second lease of life. 'Gave You All The Blame' sees him pastiching Sparklehorse's tremulous vocals, swearing superfluously and – the worst crime of all - chugging along for many, many minutes, leaving us wishing he'd live up to his name. Missy Elliott was scathing about the under-performance of a "one-minute man" on her excellent single of last year. How prescient she was.
