Beta Band : Broke

It's strange and brilliant and better than most records this week without even trying.

Through no real fault of their own , The Beta Band sometimes overwhelm because of their apparent, insufferable hipness.
It's a shame, because when
you get past the celebrity patronage and any band member peculiarities, they write some great tunes. 'Broke' offers up
their shuffling indie side for our pleasure, like The Stone Roses for the new(ish) millennium.

It fidgets with languid lo-fi intention and strips everything down to the barest necessities - the tinkle of a xylophone, a handclap, the chime of a synth. It's strange and brilliant and better than most records this week without even trying.
