Black Daniel

Hard Times On The Way

Black Daniel

6 / 10 Laddish singalong choruses, glam-rock beats and fuzzed-up guitars? Sound like a certain bunch of stadium rockers? Yes, Black Daniel have just finished touring with Kasabian and sound like their dancier siblings. That’s no surprise when you learn that two-thirds of Black Daniel, the May brothers, used to be in electro-house act Medicine 8 some years back. They are joined on vocals by Craig Higgins Jr, a former employee of dance music label Strictly Rhythm. Bet the aftershows were memorable. But despite the wham-bam style of ‘Gimme What You Got (Pull The Trigger)’ and ‘Go On Get It’, there are subtler moments: ‘Million Holes’ uses the same monotone piano riff as The Velvet Underground’s ‘I’m Waiting For The Man’. There’s nowt too clever here, but it’s all in perfect working order.
