New York may well be the epicentre of cool, but it’s also regularly guilty of valuing style higher than substance in its musical offspring. The Big Apple’s latest exports, BM Linx, would like us to believe they’re on the same playing field as Nine Inch Nails, when really they sound more like a Frankenstein-helmed team-up of 3 Colours Red and D:Ream. With added masturbatory guitar solos. This second album may replicate the chilly detachment of Reznor and co, but whenever the band attempt to meld electronica to rock, the results are uniformly execrable. It’s not until acoustic finale ‘Understanding Orange’ that the bombast is toned down, 50 ear-raping minutes too late.
