Calvin Harris

I Created Disco

You all know the Calvin Harris story by now (23 year-old Dumfries bedroom producer is turned, via furious adding on MySpace, from Marks & Spencer shelf-stacker into major Kylie-collaborating player). But far more important is just how crazily talented Harris is. Like Chromeo set to turbo, ‘Acceptable In The 80s’ was a slice of retro electro-funk so infectious it probably even had Frank Gallows getting his new rave bosh on to it in the privacy of his own bedroom. And there’s plenty more where that came from. Actually, there’s probably a bit too much at 14 tracks. But let’s not moan, because in the ridiculous, knowing likes of ‘The Girls’ and ‘Disco Heat’, Harris has distilled all of the synth-popping, amp-busting sounds of electroclash and disco-punk into a complete set of proper pop uppers.
