Awyren = Aeroplane
For every former Britpop pin-up there comes a day when a comedown folk album seems like a good idea. If they’re Welsh, it’s twice as bad: they’ve then got to sing it in their mother tongue. When it works (‘=Aeroplane’), it’s Gruff Rhys pastoral-pretty. But when it doesn’t, (‘Trwy’r Drych’) it’s Portishead without the undercurrents of self-harm. Overall = a bit boring.
