The Return Of Evil Bill(Domino)
Clinic make the sort of records which sound like they were recorded at gunpoint and at great emotional cost to the band. Which is good, obviously. The broken-fingered rattle-and-strum that is 'The Return Of Evil Bill' is like being locked in a small basement room with an early Violent Femmes album, a bent mouth organ and a hammer. But both 'The Majestic' and 'The Castle' are twisted '60s throwbacks, sounding like Phil Spector swallowing a garden shed while hacksawing his own knees off. It's not pretty but, hey, somebody's gotta do it.
