Deftones
Change (In The House Of Flies) (Maverick)
Before we start, let's get one thing straight: heavy metal is the bestest,
most brilliantest genre in all the world, bar none. It's just a senseless waste
that so many of its practitioners fail to understand what makes it so
fundamentally great. Take, for example, the bafflingly huge Deftones:
broad of shoulder, furrowed of brow and as cheerless as Thom Yorke locked
in a Dixons warehouse overnight. 'Change (In The House Of Flies)'
unleashes ugly verse after ugly chorus without ever realising rock music can be -
gasp! - quite good fun. Although, admittedly, to slog this dirge around the
world's stadia is probably pretty soul-destroying. Let's just stay well away.
