Did anyone else used to get serious willies from The Teddy Bear’s Picnic?
What’s with making songs for tiny children with creepy rumpy-dumpy minor chord progressions about loitering around woods? I mean, look at the dude that wrote it Henry Hall up there, that face says it all.
Esben And The Witch have spent a lot of time in woods recently. Their shadowy meditations have apparently inspired slew of spooky photo-shoots obscured by twigs and bracken.
You know how The XX stepped in this year to fill that gaping void that the crumbling credibility of trip-hop left for fans of fusing groove-driven electronic ambiance, indie-culture and soul music, well Esben will be making sure that void remains suitably haunted in coming months. Like Polly Harvey stepping in for Beth Gibbons during Portishead sick leave, probably following some suitably mysterious and unsettling ailment.
Doing Kylie’s ‘Confide In Me’ live, a very good call.
Here’s an exclusive Esben download, it’s called ‘Marching Song'(click the name to download).
Whilst we’re here though, check out Henry Hall’s other ‘playtime ditties’:
Seriously, what’s with this dude?
