Dog Days

Perhaps not the most original move ever (post The Longcut, Friendly Fires et al) but the B-side for this is a cover of The Source ft Candi Staton’s ‘You Got the Love’. Still, it indicates where ‘Dog Days’ is coming from: showcasing Flo’s ridiculously good voice. Out go the screechy blues of ‘Kiss With A Fist’, as little more than mandolin, piano and handclaps provide a backdrop for a metamorphic vocal by turns delicate and brutal. It turns this simple pop song into a gloriously bombastic celebration of freedom. Knackers to Nash, Flo is becoming Patti Smith.
