Zachary Cole Smith has overcome a multitude of problems to make this intensely powerful album
Foals - 'My Number'
The second track to emerge from third album 'Holy Fire'
But the response was ridiculous. Foals crowds are pretty special on any night, but when that warm, Simple Minds-y chorus kicked in the crowd-leaping inched higher than that I saw that night for 'Two Steps, Twice', 'Miami' etc – the kind of Foals songs that have caused nosebleeds on contact with their frenetic immediacy for the past couple of years, and have formed the spine of some of the best live shows I've ever seen.
It is the most immediate, poppy and complete song Foals have written so far. The way it dives into its chorus within the first ten seconds, that universally simple theme of break-up detachment… it's Foals stepping up, without dumbing down.
I've been playing the song pretty much non-stop since, and it's confirmed that Foals are pretty much my favourite UK band at the moment. Looks like their balls are as big as their brains, now. Here's to Foals' balls.
The film adaptation of R.L. Stine's classic horror novels is shockingly enjoyable
A defiantly bangerless take-me-seriously-as-an-artist album that reveals new charms every time you spin it
The utterly gripping story of how The Boston Globe exposed child abuse within the Catholic church
Hitmaker-for-hire makes a silk purse out of songs rejected by Rihanna, Adele and others
