To call the cochlea-shredding start of ‘Matchletics’ tinny would be like describing the collective oeuvre of Public Enemy as ‘a little bit tetchy.’ However, once it gets the so-high-only-a-dog-could-dance-to-it fret explorations out of the way, it’s a punchy white-funk workout with a hefty undercarriage, calling to mind the likes of The Rapture’s early stuff, before it abandons all pretences of finesse with a minute left and thunders towards the finish line with drums hammering, guitars feeding back and Yannis shouting his head off. There ain’t much of a song, but sometimes in life, being loud and funky is enough.
