Foo Fighters : Learn to fly

Yes, it's return of top gun Dave Grohl and his interchangeable Fighter crew, with a shiny new formation of songs due out next week. Led by this one: a terrific admonition via electric guitar not to look to the skies for salvation, but to pull on your own jet pack and move on up. Like R Kelly, you see, Dave believes you can fly. Unlike R Kelly, though, he can uplift us without any need for a sick bag.

On his time off, it seems Dave has mostly been sweetening his husky croon and taking on added Lemonheaded melody for fuel. The result is all still distinctly Foo-shaped, but you'd be forgiven for filing this under (whisper it) soft rock.

It's a common affliction, actually, particularly amongst ex-residents of Seattle. Not that it's any of our business, mind, but that's precisely what Grohl peer and arch enemy Courtney Love did with Hole circa 'Malibu'. So we'll be expecting that Pearl Jam reinterpretation of 'Total Eclipse of The Heart' by Christmas, then.
