2007 was the year of clever-clever Christmas singles. If it wasn’t Malcolm Middleton’s grinchathon, or Black Box Recorder teaming up with Eddie Argos, it was these guys getting lost in the X Factor slurry by post-rocking round the Christmas tree in brittle 5/4 time signatures, cooing doo-wop about doomed relationships. This may be a chin-stroke too far. While TV On The Radio can do experimental and make it sound crucial, HCDP’s comparatively mild wanderings sound as memorable as the number sequence 8273536384942111547290263839.
