Iglu & Hartly

And Then Boom

Are Iglu & Hartly for real? Are they a pretend-gay, LA surf-rock in-joke? Nothing more than Andrew WK and the Chuckle Brothers smeared in baby oil, jacked up to the eyeballs on amyl nitrate doing Scissor Sisters karaoke? Frankly, the truth will become apparent in a couple of years when they’re either a) gak-fried shells of men whimpering in rehab, Justin Hawkins-style or b) laughing all the way to the bank with piles of filthy rap-rock lucre.

Until then, one thing is very clear: these bare-chested electro-funksters have birthed an abomination of a debut album, informed by all the most disgusting musical faux pas of the past 20 years. Thought embarrassing white rap-rock had died with Fred Durst’s career? Then check out ‘Violent And Young’, where I&H exhume the corpse of early ’00s clowns Crazy Town. Elsewhere, lolloping Red Hot Chili Peppers bozo-funk bounds into view on ‘Whatever We Like’, while stupid synth nods to the incidental music from Knight Rider and Miami Vice permeate throughout.

‘And Then Boom’ is the moment the ironic ’80s electro revival finally manages to jump the shark. On a giant Filofax. With Margaret Thatcher. The important question: are you grasping your arms around chief rap goon Jarvis Anderson’s baby-oiled six-pack, the jaws of credibility snapping at your feet, or tuning out in utter revulsion? If you don’t want to look as much of a chump as either Iglu or Hartly in six months’ time, make sure it’s the latter, for fuck’s sake.

I disagree. I think it's a great album and I think their songs are really catchy. Maybe not the best live band, but they have really good stage presence which makes up for it.

I agree - I like their music alot - it makes me feel good and positive even. I like their messages as well. I think they are the next great band. You are oh so wrong Rick Martin.

No, he's not wrong....catchy as it may be, it's still a joke, and will be totally wiped from everyone's memory in one year

I agree with the NME s review even though i havnt head the album from what i have heard its terrible and they do sound like a joke band. I think 2 out 10 is too much for this shit 0/10 is more like it.

Oh my gosh - this reminds me of older stodgy people and what they said about the Beetles when they came out. Or any new kind of band for that matter.....because whatever they are doing - i can't stop listening and I love the songs - they are fresh and make me want to celebrate. I got the album - glad I did!! So, whats one silly closed minded reviewer - look at how they are selling!! That ought to tell you something!

OK - this 'band' are truly shit and the review reflects this, so why do NME TV keep playing their stuff? It makes my ears bleed and my eyeballs implode in on themselves... Please stop! BTW, in answer to paesonohill, just because lots of people buy something this does not make it good.

well its happened. caught on a little later than i expected but here in my hometown of dublin ireland the iglu and hartly craze has began, being fronted by in this city getting onto mobile phones.some of which i'm coming close to smashing already, the ears bleed as i cringe hearing a goonish LA smelly surf wigger belting out miserably awful rhymes uncreative melodies. ilgu and hartly should be locked in a real igloo, without clothes and left there to save the world from this crock of shit. 1 out 10 for me.

Thank god, I thought I may be insane. I went onto the itunes stores and no one had given the ablum a review below 4 stars. I physically could not listen to this shit but when i attempted to, a small part of y soul was destroyed in the process, as was my will to live.

The thing is...i don't really trust this review because it says that Limp Bizkit were embaressing and bad 'Thought embarrassing white rap-rock had died with Fred Durst’s career?', (and i think they dis Crazy Town tho im not too sure on that one.) but anyway, Limp Bizkit are and AWESOME band, as are Crazy Town so that to me is just convincing me to get this CD
