Some say that pop and rock fans are fickle, but their loyalty is positively Basset Hound-like in comparison to lovers of hip-hop. In rap, today’s hot potato is tomorrow’s toast and it’s all going a bit crispy round the edges for Ja Rule, whose current album has done far less well than his blockbusting ‘Pain Is Love’. So he’s duetting with R&B princess Ashanti again to try and recapture a bit of that old ‘Always On Time’ magic. Agreeable enough, but who actually (I)needs(I) it in these days of Our Lord 50 Cent?
