Man, if NME didn’t know any better, we’d say this was a new Jay-Z single. But it can’t be, he retired from ‘the rap game’ three years ago, right? Well, a handful of outstanding tracks notwithstanding, real hip-hop heads knew that Jay-Z could never get away with bowing out with something as half-assed as ‘The Black Album’. But The Rocfather readily admits to having Punk’d the world, opening the track with a cheeky “Whatchoo wan’ me to do? I’m sorry! I’m back! Hee hee hee”. With Public Enemy’s ‘Show ’Em Whatcha Got’ running through its veins, producer Just Blaze adds to the sparkling potage by throwing in some sax nicked from ‘Shaft In Africa’ to further make sex to yo’ earlobes. The only conclusion? Jay-Z is back, and at his full-assed best.
