Jonny Lives

Everybody's Trying To Break You Down

NME Logo
When this writer was first handed the demo of this track, he staggered drunk and awestruck around JFK airport playing it to strangers, just to check that it was as incredible as he thought. Two years, three Nurofen and several Kaiser Chiefs support tours later, it still is. Over wired bass and tribal-tense drums, Jonny Dubowski’s tremulous vocals bubble and crack, then guitars like car bombs full of ‘Creep’ CDs detonate and suddenly surgeons would be capable of performing open-heart surgery on the listener without the need for a scalpel. Immense.
