Kieran Hebden And Steve Reid

Tongues

Let’s make a little pact here. If anything by electronica wunderkind Kieran ‘Four Tet’ Hebden and drumming legend Steve Reid appears on the Chris Moyles show, this writer will run down to Buckingham Palace and drop his trousers. For ‘Tongues’ contains some of the most uneasy listening ever. If that sounds like a criticism, it’s not. Despite all the squeaks, tics, quacks and whistles, it makes total sense. It’s the rhythms and sounds of everyday life: car alarms roar, a modem chirps. The duo have created a tech/jazz hybrid where Reid’s freestyle riffing has Hebden triggering multiple samples.
