Terrorvision return triumphant with new album 'Good To Go'...

At a rough guess there are probably about three or four hundred better rock bands than Terrorvision. There are probably three or four in Bradford alone. Right now it’s hard to imagine a generation reared on At The Drive-In and Amen getting excited about them – and anyone who’s seen Sona Fariq knows that a frontman shouldn’t look in need of an oxygen tent after a few minutes jumping around.

But as a grinning, gasping Tony Wright grabs his toy machine gun and sprays the crowd with water for the tenth time, before launching into a mighty doo-wopping ‘Oblivion’, it’s hard to think of many better live pop bands. You know the songs titles – is there even any need for a description? ‘Perseverance’, ‘Alice, What’s The Matter?’, ‘Tequila’: with that kind of set-list it would be easy for them to turn into a kind of power-pop cabaret – Kiss with better tunes and no face paint. Instead, as Tony repeatedly tells us, they’re back to attack the mainstream with new single (‘D’Ya Wanna Go Faster?’, fantastic hi-NRG metal) and new album (‘Good To Go’).

For a band so gleefully uninhibited, patchiness is inevitable. Of the new stuff, ‘From Out Of Nothing’ is a dodgy rock ballad that strays dangerously close to Creed/Bryan Adams territory; ‘Fists Of Fury’ is a magnificently mad duelling-banjos style knees-up; and ‘Sometimes I’d Like To Kill Her’ is The Smiths’ ‘Girlfriend In A Coma’ on Ready Brek.

Terrorvision’s ‘Greatest Hits’, when it comes, will be a minor classic, and they haven’t finished adding to it yet.
