Missy Elliott : London Brixton Academy

A disappointing farce of a show from Missy...

Heavy security before the show saw to it that no-one stormed the doors for free.

The brutes and dogs would have been better off employed keeping the audience inside Brixton Academy as hundreds streamed out early from this Missy“gig”, disappointed that the hottest show in town had turned into nothing more than a

karaoke session for locals.

A “jelly” competition for girls to shake their butts, a singing competition, a

dancing contest and a rap crowd vote made up the majority of this feeble affair,

much of the rest saw Missy clambering into the throng and passing amongst the masses as if she were the Pope or something while her troupe of dancers and MCs sat somewhat bemused on stage. Missy also signed stuff to chuck into the audience, ran along the balcony with a phalanx of bodyguards and took a – ahem – well-earned rest while Lil’ Mo did a section.

Oh, and she just happened to perform a few songs along the way. ‘Supa Dupa Fly’, a banging ‘Get Ur Freak On’, ‘One Minute Man’ and ‘She’s A Bitch’ among them. Great when she could be arsed. Which was pitifully seldom. Too little Misdemeanour and too much kissy-kissyMissy. Shoulda known when the ticket announced : “An evening with Missy ‘Misdemeanour’ Elliott & Friends.”

What is it with hiphop shows? First Eminem does panto. Now this. Roll on
OutKast . At least they deliver.
