Proud Galleries, London, Wednesday April 25
Most bands don’t have warm-up shows in someone’s front room, but tonight, the very homely Proud Galleries – with fairy lights, floaty fabric, fireplace TV, and, er, life-sized horse models – plays host to The Sunshine Underground’s warm-up for their UK tour. The Leeds lads pack the tiny venue with 100 lucky fans who took heed of their MySpace message that afternoon to hit Camden, hard. And so they do, from the first chugs of opener ‘Put You In Your Place’ until set-closer ‘Raise The Alarm’, the wooden floor doesn’t stop flexing. When Craig and co treat the nutty devotees to a handful of new tracks – the massive ‘Fall In Line’ and pulsing ‘Baggy’ – the bouncers look on, scared that the ground might cave in. The fans leave danced-out, the band leave Proud, proudly.
