Album review: Loop - 'A Gilded Eternity'
Sonic Boom and disciples of Spacemen 3 will insist that Loop nabbed their narco-drone back in the ’80s. While it is true that Robert Hampson did also dream of Alan Vega and Roky Erickson, Loop’s third and final album ‘A Gilded Eternity’, first released in 1990, is something else. Brutish, axe-cranking space-rock with the whiff of a caveman about it, this is primal and loud, with sharp, nasty edges that nod towards the precise machine-rock of Can and Sonic Youth’s maniacal guitar wailings – all of this while Mr Boom was playing with his Moogs.
