Expertly grasping the baton of fluid, analogue techno handed to him by folk like James Holden and Nathan Fake, Luke Abbott has knocked out a blinding five-track EP on Notown, the label helmed by Gold Panda. Lead single ‘Modern Driveway’ has a dreamy motorik energy and an ultra-emotive melody. Elsewhere the dark disco swagger on display evokes the intensity (if not the amateur dramatics) of Gui Boratto’s emo-tech house. ‘Modern Driveway’, then, sees Abbott join an elite club of producers who are equally as rewarding in quiet bedroom contemplation as they are on a starry-eyed night out.
