Currently music’s most fertile breeding ground, Berlin is home to a dynamic network of clubs, labels and producers who are constantly stretching the boundaries of minimal techno, electro and electronica. The Get Physical label – co-owned by DJ/ production duo MANDY – soaks up all these influences and feeds them into their own brand of futuristic electronic house music. That sound, as this compelling set of MANDY remixes shows, couldn’t be further away from all those bangin’ Ibeefa anthems of yore. The Knife, Sugababes and Roxy Music all get the treatment, but it’s Patrick Bodmer and Philipp Jung’s re-rub of Tiefschwarz’s ‘Damage’ that sets the dark, sleek tone: all lurching, liquid bass hum, electrifying metallic noise and crispy disco drums.
