Massive Attack/Mos Def : I Against I

Our single of the week is the most perfectly shaded piece of electro hip hop heard in these parts for aeons...

The Attack return after a four year absence minus Mushroom but with a one-off collaboration with Mos Def that’s darker than the Gobi Desert at night and heavier than five lunchtime courses at La Gavroche (yes, NME’s punning research budget knows no limit).

And yet despite how forbidding that sounds, there’s a rhythmic spring in the step of ‘I Against I’ that keeps this fresh, clean, modern and vital – it’s pretty much the most perfectly shaded piece of electro hip hop heard in these parts for aeons. We will now be scanning the horizon excitedly and daily for the first call of their soon-come fourth album. We sense something mighty in the offing...
