Gecko. certainly don’t charge headlong into anything, if the tortuous Radiohead-at-17rpm intro of ‘Motherhood/Fatherhood’ is anything to go by. Stick with it and it becomes a faintly ridiculous Nick Cave-style shanty based around the notion that being a mother is much better than being a father, complete with all manner of odd bits. It’s a good old-fashioned wail-along-if-you-know-the-words drinking song about a peculiar subject, much like Gogol Bordello’s ‘Start Wearing Purple’. Which isn’t bad company in which to be.
