3 / 10 Michael Pitt is an actor who played the lead role in Last Days, a biopic based loosely – oh, OK then, quite closely – on the final hours of Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain’s life. Now, Pitt’s band are putting out their first album, and guess who it sounds a bit – oh, OK then, absolutely loads – like? Got it in one. ‘Lesson Learned’ finds Pitt yowling about medication and “paaain!” in that familiar, marble-gargling guttural voice, while ‘Fetus’ apes those choppy grunge chord-changes and even brings an ‘Unplugged In New York’-style cello along for the ride. For Pitt, it’s presumably just one more acting job, although why Kurt’s old pal Thurston Moore is putting this out on his label is a mystery for the ages. Creepy.
