Not a she but a they, Rachel Stamp are three young men who, as the title of their new single suggests, really, really wanna be your dolls.
Their superbly-named singer and bassist David Ryder-Prangley is pretty enough to carry off the sort of BRIGHT! GREEN! HAIR! that would make most people look like wayward leprechauns. Meanwhile, drummer Robin Guy is wearing twice his own bodyweight in glitter, and guitarist Will Crewdson is immaculately made-up and together. Rachel Stamp are possessed of that star quality which declares that They. Are. A. Band.
But it's not all about image. This lot talk it exactly like they walk it, exhibiting spangly, belligerent misfit rock at its finest on songs like last summer's single 'I Got The Worm' and the alternately seductive 'My Sweet Rose'.
Rachel Stamp have had a viciously loyal tribe of miscellaneous boys with a penchant for glitter and deviant girls in London for a couple of years now, but they're spreading northwards fast. Tonight, Manchester falls at their feet. Expect trails of glitter and feathers around Glasgow in the near future.
