Mary Poppins, are Reef still at it? We assumed they’d evolved into some slightly more advanced lifeform - Neanderthal man, perhaps - and now spend their days crafting rudimentary flint tools. Still, they have reached the rock’n’roll endgame that is the ‘Best Of...’, and ‘Give Me Your Love’ is the obligatory newie to sweeten the pill of buying thirteen tracks you already own - a Zeppelin
monstrosity of wicky-wah-wah pedal and lumpen Cro-Magnon funkiness.
Fortunately, Gary Stringer is still roaring like an aggrieved mountain yak tied to a surfboard: "Gimme your love that’s sweet as.... aw yeayah!" he shrieks. It really is beyond self-parody, which on one level, at least, makes it perversely enjoyable.
