Serious

Obviously everybody at NME is far too cool to listen to real rockabilly, but if that’s how Richard Hawley (aka God) describes this, then that’s exactly what it is. And, against our better judgement perhaps, we like it. One of the faster cuts from the sublime ‘Lady’s Bridge’ album, ‘Serious’ – like its creator – certainly doesn’t muck about. It gets in nice and early with a jaunty guitar line, quick-fire verse and delivers the knockout blow with what could well be one of Hawley’s most repeatable choruses. On the B-side, the Elvis of the North even covers the real Elvis. A sure-fire score.
