Odd Situation

Zipping between musical styles on an album is one thing; doing it within each of your tracks runs the risk of total jack-of-all-trades suicide. It’s a trick London’s Semifinalists have managed to perfect, however, and their genre pillaging continues with this first cut from their new ‘2’ LP. ‘Odd Situation’ begins as wet as Alexis Taylor wanking over a load of old Pet Shop Boys seven-inches, but soon grows some bollocks, segueing into a riff of pure Muse-like bombast. It’s a brilliantly bonkers confection: like vomiting up a Ferrari, a gram of coke and a missing child all at once.
