Smashing Pumpkins

Tarantula

Has Billy Corgan blown it? He reformed the Smashing Pumpkins while his questionable solo album and the alt.rock lunacy that was Zwan were still fresh in the memory. Now he’s (and we do mean ‘he’; the new band are essentially him and the drummer) back with ‘Tarantula’ and this prog rock workout makes us worry. Mainly because it forces us to wonder if this is what Matt Bellamy will sound like in 15 years’ time when the Blakes 7 DVDs run out and he’s found a non Facebook (ie real) girlfriend? We’re quaking in our moonboots. Oh, and it features Paris Hilton on the cover for that essential post-ironic jailbird chic.
