The Courteeners

Acrylic

You would be mistaken (and a complete tosser to boot) to think that this is another band for Berghaus jacket-wearing teenage girls who love dirty tracksuit-clad builders. Or ‘Pigeon Detectives fans’ as we like to call them. No, The Courteeners are far better than that. And while this track isn’t as good as their previous NME Track Of The Week, ‘Cavorting’, it still feverishly grabs you by the danglies, climbs up your spine and slices itself deep into your cranium. If you ever dreamed of a band who combined the best bits of Oasis and The Libertines, then The Courteeners are your perfect wet dream.

The Courteeners ‘Acrylic’
Up and coming Mancunian band, the Courteeners’ second single ‘Acrylic’ appears to be riding on the coattails of northern bands such as ‘Arctic Monkeys’ and with more than a passing resemblance to ‘The View’ with their spiky, sneering lyrics and blunt northern sarcasm. Self proclaiming themselves to be Manchester’s next big thing, it will be interesting to see whether these cocky Mancs propel themselves to ‘Oasis’ level stardom or fade back into the ‘pretentious underground indie’ they hold in such contempt. 3/5
