A minute’s silence, please, for the latest pop band to be tragically struck down by the affliction known as Albarn’s Syndrome. Basically, they’ve grown up and they’re not fun anymore. Boo! Gone are the young scamps who graced the O2 NME Rock’N’Roll Riot Tour in 2006 and in their place a bunch of Glaswegian twentysomethings who seem to be in the business of making serious music – with sensible, grown-up post-rock guitars and all that nonsense. Dear oh dear. It’s a good job then, that they’re still brilliant. We suppose this will do, but who are we going to play Ludo with now?
