Fields: 4 From The Village
In a Fields of their own. Arf!
EPs are lucky little things, with bands tending to avoid the crapshoot of single selection by saying, “Here’s four songs. You guys choose which one you want on the radio.” Well, Fields, we pick ‘Heretic’, which is what The Animal Collective would sound like if, after spending all day listening to My Bloody Valentine, they went tragically sane. Otherwise, ‘Brittlesticks’ is as it sounds – a tandem bike ride down a village road, bouncing in the backseat – whereas ‘Roll Down The Hill’ is provincial, homebrew Sigur Rós. Any other time of year, we’d be slapping it with a bright yellow ‘twee’ warning, but right here, right now, Fields are magic.
