The Hives
The Hives, Album review 'The black and white album'
We Rule The World (T.H.E.H.I.V.E.S)
A bit of a left turn for The Hives, who, after pulling off five or so albums of garage-rock so hungry and primitive it sounds like it hunts dinosaurs for food, have suddenly decided to get into bed with Pharrell Williams. The result is ‘We Rule The World…’, a big wobbly noir-disco song with one-chord guitars and someone chanting the band’s name, letter by letter, in a spooky monotone. But it’s curiously unsatisfying, like climbing a speaker stack for the world’s best stage-dive and finding the crowd have all gone to buy cocktails at the bar.
