The Hold Steady
Listen to full tracks now. Users outside the UK can hear 30-second clips of each song.
It’s a strange but enjoyable sight watching five, shall we say, mature men, who look like they’ve just dropped the kids off after a hectic school run, grinning like mental hospital outpatients, punching the air gleefully, and generally rocking out like their lives depend on it.
Boasting natty cowboy shirts, impressive stubble and sturdy waistlines, The Hold Steady are a world away from the latest skinny-jeaned kids on the block. But the likes of ‘Chips Ahoy!’ (written about a horse named after a biscuit), and classic rock slow burner ‘Southtown Girls’ prove beyond doubt that it’s not just wisdom that comes with age, but also buckets full of unadulterated talent.
