The Icarus Line
Black Lives At The Golden CoastMore on The Icarus Line
5 / 10 If Los Angeles’ The Icarus Line were pissed off when Trent Reznor stole their guitarist, Aaron North, for Nine Inch Nails, North himself must have wondered if he’d done the right thing when Reznor then went and wrote an album featuring barely any guitar parts. Unfortunately for his old band, North seems to have taken a lot of the raging hyena squall of previous albums with him. ‘Black Lives At The Golden Coast’ trades white heat for grey experimentation, lurching with ease between psychedelic wig-outs (‘Fshn Fvr’) and low-slung blues (‘Amber’). It all adds up to a band who are lucky to be possessed of more black magic than most, but now lacking the focus to really do much with it.
