The Knife: Like A Pen

Writing 120 words about anything by The Knife is a bit like critiquing a Shakespearean ode on the stick of a lollipop. Simultaneously vast and simple, this high-end trance track is equal parts ridiculous, sexy and doom-laden. Recorded with an orchestra of kids popping their cheeks in Satan’s cathedral at the centre of the earth (possibly), ‘Like A Pen’ is unnerving, otherworldly and brilliant. Some kind of date-raping demon lives within these unreal rhythms and Karin Dreijer’s cackling vocals dart across the electronic landscape, relaying obtuse and apocalyptic imagery with seedy pornographic delight. You’ve never heard anything quite like it. Another day at the office for The Knife, then.
