Right now, we’re grateful for every ray of sonic sunshine we can get. Take this newie from The Magic Numbers, which, far from being their typical swoosh of sweet but ephemeral West Coast harmony pop, is a real funk-soul brother’n’sister number. With its hip-shimmying bass, luxuriant hair-twiddling guitar, and intimacy-starved vocal, it seems insistent on bumping uglies with every willing partner in sight. Careful if you’re going to compare them to Barry White, though. They’ll probably get the wrong idea.
