The Music : Take The Long Road And Walk It

The Music are already being positioned on the shoulders of The Stone Roses and The Verve as the next life-affirming northern rock group. Their limited debut single doesn't rule that out - it's better than the Roses' debut and worse than The Verve's. It's like a low-rent cross between the two, that stars a singer called Robert Harvey who sounds like The Cult's Ian Astbury with his balls in a vice. But friends, you miss a treat by not receiving the accompanying press release. Almost paedophiliac in tone (these are young boys from Leeds, it boasts, 17, 18... corrr!), it declares that this is a group "that aims to do what other bands have never done before". What could that be? Run a veterinary clinic? Discover the lost city of Atlantis? It's still in their hands. In the meantime, invest in this promising debut in the hope that one day you may be able to pay your credit card off with it (music investments can go down as well as up, NME cannot be held responsible for any losses incurred).
