Music : The People EP

As I was saying to Chris from Menswear over a
pint of cheap speed down the Good Mixer just the
other day, I’m always slightly out of step with the
NME cognescenti. So inevitably, just as The Music are
officially declared "bollocks" by the watercooler mafia I -
having previously wanted to kneecap the whining, trogg-faced
wankers with a pizza cutter - find myself strangely
aroused by ‘The People EP’’s impression of Primal Scream
crashing a big funky juggernaut into an Orbital factory. If
you can get over the fact that Robert Harvey sings like his
proctologist is getting frisky with the tongs, here be
many Cooper Templish 70s-cop-show-theme thrills. As surefire
chart worriers for 2002 go, they’re up there with my other
hot new discovery of the week, Campag Velocet.
