The Nightwatchman

One Man Revolution

The Nightwatchman

4 / 10 The Nightwatchman is Rage Against The Machine guitarist Tom Morello’s even more political acoustic alter ego. Which equals a US Billy Bragg without any of the warmth, humour or coded references to West Ham United. On ‘One Man Revolution’ he tackles a great deal of Very Important Subjects – the rampant rise of capitalism (‘California’s Dark’), the plight of the working man (‘Union Song’), the Iraq war (pretty much everything else). As you would expect from a Harvard-educated political activist, he has a lot of Very Interesting Things to say about them. Trouble is, despite his surprisingly palatable baritone, this remains an album you won’t want to listen to more than once. In fact, you might want to skip the music altogether and read the lyric sheet instead.
