Rumble Strips: No Soul/Motorcycle
Trumpet, sax and a whole lot of weirdness
These Devonshire oddballs are named after those bumps in the middle of the road, which is an odd choice for a band that are about as far from MOR as you can get. ‘Motorcycle’ sees them career way off centre, down a bumpy country path on a wobbly bicycle with a trailer full of brass instruments that aren’t strapped in, and comes with spectacular falsetto gymnastics. Add to that the other A-side ‘No Soul’, a Dexys-resurrected-and-made-to-jig feast of sax, trumpet and drums that roll like a hay bale, and you have in front of you Transgressive’s next big thing.
