They tell me that this is Phill Jupitus’ Record Of The Week on a show he does on something called BBC 6Music, which sounds like a made-up radio station to me. Regardless, this is a shimmery, summery delight, shot through with a veritable profusion of lovely bits, whether they be Beach Boys-y harmonies, reverb-soaked guitars or the odd tickle of Farfisa organ. Any song whose chorus is simply “Oooh aaah-oooh aaaah-oooh” gets our vote, and according to the press release, Natalie Portman’s too, which means that, if nothing else, ‘Phantom Limb’ enables a universe in which the most gorgeous actress of her generation happily co-exists with a comedian who looks a bit like a testicle.
