From the over-echoed vocal chorus on massive Kitsuné hit ‘Trash’ through to the atrociously over-sexualised “aaahs” throughout ‘Nuzzle’, The Whip have always teetered on the tightrope of really great dance tunes stretched precariously over a chasm of cheesy vocals. Unfortunately, ‘Sister Siam’ has lyrics like “You go your way and I’ll go mine” grunted like a sweating Pigeon Detective over £1-a-dance strip club music and some high-pitched “ooohs” that eventually prod it off balance. Compared to the 12,000 other bands tickling us with this kind of schtick, it just seems a bit lazy.
