According to scientists, aproximately 97% of successful pop stars right now are dead. But, bucking the trend, TLC
’s decision to carry on after the passing of Lisa ‘Left Eye’ Lopes is a very bad idea. True, they invented modern R&B, but ‘Girl Talk’ sounds woefully tired and derivative, a dowdy elder sister of J-Lo’s ‘My Love Don’t Cost A Thing’ that limps with the self-conscious gait of a band outclassed by the new femme brigade. That an unsettling rap-from-the-grave from Lopez is the record’s one redeeming feature is a clue toTLC’s future prospects. It's over.
