You Cut Her Hair (db Records)

Sounding more bereft, more profoundly adrift than most people would allow
themselves to on vinyl, Tom McRae narrates a peculiar tale of betrayal and
longing, accompanied by buzzing lo-fi guitar, cello, and a piano whose every note
sounds like your world caving in. Subtly creepy, this is brittle, stripped-bare,
an ugly symphony of awkward silences and disquiet. The kind of song where, when
the singer sings that he wants you to "live, live
long", it sounds like the most evil curse you ever heard.
