Guitar-picking folker - sadly low on ideas
Anyone who enters the pop scene with the name Elvis is, whether knowingly or not, setting their quality watermark rather high. But its not only by comparison to Messrs Presley or Costello that While You Were Sleeping flounders; its just rather dull. Willy Mason is an obvious comparison, Violent Femmes another, but Elvis lacks the charisma and hick romanticism of either. The guitar-picking and clattering, brushed drums are pleasant, but it goes on for at least three minutes too long and when he calls in the string section, its clear hes running out of ideas. And you need ideas, really.
